March 31, 2011_my 1st presentation in Chinese

I woke up early today, planned to finish the last 2 chapters of Chinese book I'm studying before our trip to Guilin. I just sipped my coffee, thanking God for the warm weather, checking on FB, when my phone rang and disturbed my peaceful morning.

Knowing that the presentation was a 中期考核~zhongqikaohe, 'mid-term exam', which I know is very important during your study as a grad-student in China I went to the class. I saw all of the teachers and students eyes were stared at me and my Thai friend when we finally came.

The teachers had no idea why we were so 随便, we were 1.5 hours late, then we walked out from the classroom, and one Chinese friend told one teacher that she needs to teach us how to do a 'zhongqikaohe' presentation. Errr...

Friend of Sa told us 4 parts that we need to present. The 1st part was the hardest one, I still don't get it until now. The translator program said that it's something related with "political views". Humph, I'm nobody in political area, I think. Then the Chinese students had a debate whether the international students need to present this section or not, and how to explain it to us. At last they asked the teacher and the teacher said that we don't need to do a presentation with slides, and all they want to hear is my achievements in 1.5 years.

I decided to do it in Chinese. 1st-ly, to make sure that all the audience can understand better than if I speak in English without any text written, though I'm quite sure I might mispronounce some words. 2nd-ly, I want to test my Chinese level, good chance!
Here is what I said:

Hello everybody,
My name is Lisa, I'm an Indonesian international students. My supervisor is Professor Li Zongjun. I have studied one and a half year in China, finished 29 points, my scores were good, each course was 90 or higher.

I also went for factory visits with some teachers, and with the students we often go to play together, and go eating together. I think my classmates and I have a good relationship, we help each other. They help me to learn Chinese, and also when I didn't know how to use some machines. I often help them to see their English abstract.
I have written a small paper, and right now it is checked by the teacher. Hope it can be published in Food Science Journal after he finished it. There are four parts in my experiment. The first one was use a different  temperature to store grass carp. This part had been done, the results were good, and paper is almost finished. The second was using different preservatives and its concentrations in fish storage. This part was also had been done. In the third and four parts high-pressure will be used, so I should go to the China Agricultural University. My teacher have contacted the China Agricultural University, so I don't have any problem until now. Hunan Provincial Education Department gave me a 2nd prize scholarship last year.

As a student, I have met several difficulties, but teachers, the students are warmly and enthusiastically helping me. So I can say that I like study in China and I enjoy my life here. I think it's similar to a sentence "Life is an adventure", it is interesting!
Thank you!

Thanks to Zhang Yi who publicly apologized to all the teachers for she had forgotten us. I'm touched. Thank you for being so kind to us.

March 27, 2011_pusing sebelon travelling

Traveling should be a fun thing to do. But u also may get stressed out because u are going with people u don't really familiar yet. Best thing to do is communicate all the plan as clear as possible, as early as possible.

Anyway, the only things I need are His wisdom. I'm glad I have people around me, they are used to shape my "independent" character. openness...openness....humility....hospitality...do it cheerfully..

Guilin......I'm coming!! This will be FUN!

March 23, 2011_hospitality

Ini sate gua hari ini dari 1Peter 4 (Amplified):

7But the end and culmination of all things has now come near; (jadiii...nomor 1 adalah:) and keep sound minded and self-restrained and alert therefore for [the practice of] prayer. (doa....doa...musti disiplin doa, komunikasi ma Bos ya...)

8Above all things (nomor 2...) have intense and unfailing love for one another, (hm, musti inisiatif mengasihi tanpa batas ya...) for love covers a multitude of sins [forgives and disregards the offenses of others]. (manissss..... :p)

(gmn wujudnya?)   9Practice hospitality to one another (those of the household of faith). [Be hospitable, be a lover of strangers (kata2 be a lover of strangers ini ngena banget buat gua pagi ini...lover of strangers, do I? have I practiced to love strangers? hyeumm....temen sekamar aja ngomong seadanya.. temen se-lab diajak berantem... kumaha yeuh..), with brotherly affection for the unknown guests, the foreigners, the poor, and all others who come your way who are of Christ's body.] And [in each instance] do it ungrudgingly (cordially and graciously, without complaining but as representing Him). (lengkap, jelas, dan tegas ya ketentuan praktek mengasihi....)

(eit, tunggu, belon beres...)    11.....whoever renders service, [let him do it] as with the strength which God furnishes [g]abundantly, so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ (the Messiah). To Him be the glory and dominion forever and ever (through endless ages). Amen (so be it).

(sekalian promosi: dia single dan available nih pria2.. :p )

March 22, 2011_Mǎwángduī

Mawangdui (Chinese: 馬王堆; pinyin: Mǎwángduī, lit. "Horse King Mound") is an archaeological site located in Changsha, China. The site consists of two saddle-shaped hills and contained the tombs of three people from the western Han Dynasty (206 BCE - 9 CE). The tombs belonged to the first Marquis of Dai, his wife, and a male who is believed to be their son. The site was excavated from 1972 to 1974. Most of the artifacts from Mawangdui are displayed at the Hunan Provincial Museum.
The eastern tomb, Tomb no. 1, contained the remains of a woman in her fifties (Lady Dai). Her mummified so well-preserved that in 1972 researchers were able to perform an autopsy on her body, which showed that she probably died of a heart attack. Specifically, her diet was too rich in sugars and meats, and she suffered from arterial-coronary problems. The corpse therefore still had hair, its joints were limber and the soft organs were still soft, her blood-type was A-type. Buried with her were skeletons of various food-animals, jujubes, lotus soup, grains and a complete meal including soup, rice and meat skewers on a lacquer set. Researchers found honeydew melon seeds in her stomach, inferring consumption right before death. She outlived the occupants of the other two tombs. Her personal name was Xinzhui (辛追).

Before:
She was a queen... U can see this statue in Hunan Provincial Museum

After:
 This is her mummy.

Buat bis sendiri, gua belon pernah coba utk jalan sendiri pake bis.. cuma pernah 1x pake travel..
Untuk K, T, Z train ada 4 pilihan, hard seat, soft seat, hard sleeper, soft sleeper (price increased respectively). Sejauh ini selalu pilih hard seat, memang pegel buangetttt sech, apalagi klo 19jam duduk tegak, tidur ga nyenyak karena volume org Cina yang tebie. Tapi, begitu sampe tempat tujuan, ya pegel dikit tak apa la... paling masih agak goyang2 dikit pas jalan.. hehehe..

2. Akomodasi

Passport/fotokopinya selalu dibawa.

This is my bible verses for today, I try to memorize the NIV version, but I like to read different versions to get deeper meaning.
(NIV)
1 O Lord, you have searched me and you know me.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.
3 You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.
4 Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O Lord.
5 You hem me in--behind and before; you have laid your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.

(Amplified Bible)
1O LORD, you have searched me [thoroughly] and have known me.
2You know my downsitting and my uprising; You understand my thought afar off.(A)
3You sift and search out my path and my lying down, and You are acquainted with all my ways.
4For there is not a word in my tongue [still unuttered], but, behold, O Lord, You know it altogether.(B)
5You have beset me and shut me in--behind and before, and You have laid Your hand upon me.
6Your [infinite] knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high above me, I cannot reach it.

(The Message)
1-6 God, investigate my life; get all the facts firsthand.
I'm an open book to you; even from a distance, you know what I'm thinking.
You know when I leave and when I get back; I'm never out of your sight.
You know everything I'm going to say before I start the first sentence.
I look behind me and you're there, then up ahead and you're there, too—
your reassuring presence, coming and going.
This is too much, too wonderful—I can't take it all in!

(NLT)
1 O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me.
2 You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.
3 You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do.
4 You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord.
5 You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand!

March 15, 2011_China Agricultural University

Part of my research will be done in other university, basically any university that has high hydrostatic pressure machine. Today my teachers mention about China Agricultural University, Beijing. My friend said it's the best agricultural university in China. After being 'ping-pong-ed' from university to university, I hope CAU is really the one I will go. Good night!

March 10,2011_early bonus

Today Michael from International Division called me. He asked me to come to his office. I wasn't in a mood to walk especially because I was just finished my shower and it was cold outside. But I put on my jacket then off to his office.
Just as I got into his office, he asked me to count some money and take some pictures. The Department of Education of Hunan Province granted me 3000 元 as a 2nd prize scholarship as Master's student. PTL!!!

I was totally shocked.
I didn't even know that the International Division registered my name.
Briefly, after took some pictures, and another pictures, and another one, I went home. I stopped by to had some porridge. I praised Him...
Who am I, O Lord? My life is nothing but a breath to You.
Who am I, O Lord that You grant me all these China things?
I am grateful to be here, I am blessed to have a chance meeting people from different countries, to study here, to live here. It's a blessing....I know for sure.
I am grateful for all the teachers and friends I met here.
I am grateful to know You, to be Yours, to be saved by Your grace.
I am thankful for this whole life.
But now Lord, yet You give me more. O Lord, isn't it too much?
Who am I, O Lord that You loves me this much?
Jesus, I'm overwhelmed.
Teach me O Lord, the path of righteousness so I can glorify Your name.

I'm not a 'red-color' person. But I like the Chinese red envelope (Hongbao - Angpao), and this certificate. Oh, and the 100RMB Chinese money! \(^o^)/~

March 9,2011_rejoice in your works

Do u enjoy your day? How about your school/your work?
How about your tasks at church, at house, at the organization u r joined in? Does it burn you out?
Yes, he wants us to be responsible, he wants to do the best we can. He also said that we are sent to this world as an ambassador, like a sheep among the wolves. Though we are ought to pay the price, yet he wants us to enjoy good things as well.

King Solomon said, "I know that there is nothing better for them than to be glad and to get and do good as long as they live; And also that every man should eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labor--it's God's gift......So I saw that there is nothing better than that a man should rejoice in his own works, for that is his portion." (Ecclesiastes 3:12-13, 22, Amplified)

Thus, rejoice in your own works, it's a good thing, there is nothing better than that! Enjoy your work, go out, eat and drink, be glad and do good things!

P.S.: I hope we can creatively found FUN n CRAZY things to do! Go, make some fun!

March 8, 2011_International Women's Day

Do u know that today is the 100th anniversary of International Women's Day?
Well, it is. And the theme for International Women's Day 2011 is:
Equal access to education, training and science and technology: Pathway to decent work for women

Why a day is exclusively dedicated to the celebration of the world's women? The General Assembly cited two reasons: to recognize the fact that securing peace and social progress and the full enjoyment of human rights and fundamental freedoms require the active participation, equality and development of women; and to acknowledge the contribution of women to the strengthening of international peace and security. For the women of the world, the Day's symbolism has a wider meaning: It is an occasion to review how far we have come in their struggle for equality, peace and development. It is also an opportunity to unite, network and mobilize for meaningful change.

Terus gua takut deh sama yang namanya punya perasaan2, berusaha segala sesuatunya di-logika-in.

For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.

hihi... jarang2 nih gua ngomong2 yg kaya gini.. :p
yadah, liat foto aja deh.. foto hari ini 'fresh from the oven', bener2 kejadian hari ini. Katanya dalam rangka Women's Day. hehehe..

March 7, 2011_writing my thesis

Writing a thesis report might not an exciting thing to do. It can be boring and stressing. What I do now is I make simple target for every day, 2 sub chapters a day, and do it without pressure. I try not to be stressed out, yet enjoy it.
For now, I can say I'm doing well with it. I made a progress, it is 65% finished. Yeay!! PTL!

Btw, below is my Pixma iP1980, thank you for doing so much work. You are great!

March 6, 2011_groups of people

One night, I watched a TV program. There was an interview which I found funny yet interesting.

The man said that people can be classified into 3 groups:
1. The 1st class people - are people who are able to 'make' people
e.g. teacher, doctor, lawyer
2. The 2nd class people - are people who are able to 'make' goods or service
e.g. artist, engineer, architect, etc.
3. The 3rd class people - are people who are not able to 'make' anything, they just 'transfer' the people and goods produced by the 1st class and 2nd class people.

No offense! But I am happy that I'm a teacher. I love to be a teacher, money is not the biggest issue. ;)
For me myself, I will not classified people based on these categories.
We are all precious, because we are the Lord's creation, uniquely designed by His own hand.

The important thing is love your job, do it with your heart, let people be blessed through u.

Life is short. Live well. Time flies. Use it wisely.

March 5, 2011_sweet things

I had a great Saturday!

Why?

because:
I met Lv yuan, my sweet and kindhearted Chinese tutor,and we chatted a lot;
We went out for shopping;
I had a "Tian tian mang" @ Daylight Donuts;
We shared a donuts;
We also met Xiang Li Rong;
and we walked for more than 7 hours that day (calories are burned! Yeah!!)

March 4, 2011_life is short

Still struck with Gandhi's quote which talked about life. Life is not about speed, there is more to life than increasing its speed.

I am a person who wants every thing to be quick. After achieving one goal, I can hardly be relaxed and enjoyed the goal I have achieved, worse I can easily get stressed with the next target. I know it's a weakness, though..

Today, I have finished the discussion of my 1st part of my thesis. Yeay! Good to me that my sister and my friend came over today. They needed to use the internet, so I lent my notebook to them, decided to continue my work tomorrow. Then I sat down and opened my bible. Then I found this verse:

"Show me, O LORD, my life's end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting is my life." (NIV, Psalms 39:4)

"LORD, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered--how fleeting my life is." (NLT)

Thank you Lord for Your Word.
You remind me that my life is fleeting.
I'm not living only to achieve all my goals, yet Yours.
I'm not living to enjoy the life as I want it to be, but as You want it to be.
I'm not here in China just to get a Master's degree.
Keep remind me how precious my family and friends are.

March 3, 2011_I need some stretching

Today, I was stay in front of my notebook, I was trying to write my paper, discussing the effect of chilling on fish. Sitting for more than 12 hours with papers to be read (in a giant chiller) gives me a back pain. Rather than sit straight or lean back to be relaxed, I often bent forward to read the journals and write my paper.
Now I really need some stretching. I wish we have this unique door in Changsha and even though I know how hot the summer is, I really want to use short pants.

Anw, I have finished 15% of my paper. PTL!

March 2, 2011_way of life

I don't think there will be anybody who has the exactly same path of life. A meaningful life is not depend on how u started it or how clear you can see your path is, but it depends on how u live it.
How to live a life?
It's not about gaining, it's about giving

"A person starts to live when he can live outside himself." (Albert Einstein)
"There is more to life than increasing its speed."(Gandhi)

share with others, even though it's just a ride on a becak
it's not about speed ;)

March 1, 2011_wo de hao pengyou

This is Sheila, one of my best friends. She is a unique woman, just as Father created her. We were classmate and roommate, still being friends until now. I'm glad to have her as a friend and I also really glad that she continues her study.
See you next year, pingu!
